Iran's Permanent Mission to the UN says retaliation “will not hurt” the possibility of a cease-fire
In response to the question of whether Iran will postpone retaliatory attacks against Israel until the cease-fire negotiations proposed next week are realized, the United Nations Iran Delegation stated that Iran also recognizes the cease-fire agreement recognized by Hamas.
“Our priority is to establish a permanent cease-fire in Gaza, and we will approve any agreement Hamas accepts,” the representative said in a statement.
“The Israeli regime has violated our national security and sovereignty through recent acts of terrorism,” the delegation stated, referring to the murder of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniya in Tehran in late July. It is widely believed that Israel carried out this incident.
「It has nothing to do with the cease-fire in Gaza, but we have a legitimate right to self-defense. However, they hope to respond in a timing and manner that does not compromise the possibility of a cease-fire” the statement said.
The mission added that “direct and intermediary” lines of communication “always exist” between Iran and the United States.
