Iran's Permanent Mission to the UN suggests refraining from retaliation amid Gaza cease-fire talks
Reuters reports that the representative of the Iranian United Nations delegation in New York answered “I hope so” in response to the question of whether progress in cease-fire negotiations means Iran will refrain from retaliatory attacks against Israel in the future.
In response to Israel's assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniya in late July in Tehran, the capital of Iran, the region is prepared for a strong reaction.
Retaliation has yet to be realized, and while an agreement between Israel and Hamas appears to be approaching, US officials have stated that an Iranian attack could stall negotiations.
A senior White House official told reporters on condition of anonymity that the United States told Iran, “Don't do that. stop it. I'm serious. He said he was sending a message saying, “If you do such a thing, the consequences will be catastrophic.”
