Israel's war on Gaza: recent developments

• The Israeli military has killed 42 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours. This includes 10 people in southern Khanyunis. In Han Yunis, tens of thousands of Palestinians have been evicted from their homes due to new military operations.

・The Hamas armed organization Kassam Brigade announced that 1 Israeli prisoner of war was killed in Gaza, and 2 female prisoners were seriously injured in another incident.

・The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting to discuss Israel's war in response to Israel's attack on a school in Gaza City and killing more than 100 Palestinians. This is the 24th special session of the United Nations Security Council since the start of the war in Gaza on October 7.

・US President Joe Biden and the leaders of France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom have asked Iran to “refrain” from threatening retaliation against Israel in response to the assassinations of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniya in Tehran and Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut.

・Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian once again emphasized Iran's “right to respond to invaders” in telephone talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and stated that Iran “will never give in to pressure, sanctions, or threats.”

・Jordan denied Israel's claim that Lebanon's Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and Hamas fighters are using their own territory to smuggle weapons into the occupied West Bank, and stated that “no matter how high the amount of disinformation by the Israeli authorities” the war against Gaza is “the greatest threat to regional security.”
