Israel's War on Gaza: Recent Events

· Hamas argues that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is responsible for “interfering with the efforts of mediators,” delaying the agreement, and subjecting Israeli prisoners of war in Gaza to the same attacks Palestinians are facing.
・Israel says it “wants to stay in the Philadelphia Corridor.” The Philadelphia Corridor*1 is part of a larger demilitarized zone on both sides of the border between Israel and Egypt. This has become a point of contention in cease-fire negotiations.
・US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken visited Tel Aviv to increase political pressure for a cease-fire and prisoner exchange agreement.
· Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza said it would stop operating the facility within 24 hours due to a shortage of fuel and medical supplies, and Rafah's Kuwait Hospital was forced to cancel the operation.
• The Palestinian Civil Defense Force in the Gaza Strip also reported that at least 0.01 million people were buried under the rubble, and the bodies “collapsed” due to the use of high-intensity weapons, and about 1,760 people are estimated to have died.
*1: This corridor, also known as the Philadelphia Route, is a 14 km long stretch of land that occupies the entire border area between Gaza and Egypt.
This corridor was established as a buffer zone managed and patrolled by the Israeli military as part of the 1979 peace treaty with Egypt that ended Israel's occupation of the Sinai Peninsula and reopened the Suez Canal.
After the Israeli military withdrew from Gaza in 2005, it was placed under the control of the Egyptian military and became the only link with the outside world of Gaza, which was not controlled by Israel.
