KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 (Bernama) — TikTok owner ByteDance plans to invest in smart intelligence (AI) and make Malaysia an AI hub in the region with an investment proposal of about RM10 billion.
Tengku Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said in a post on the X website (formerly known as Twitter) that he was informed of this during his meeting with TikTok Vice President Helena Lersch in Singapore today.
“This additional ByteDance investment will undoubtedly help Malaysia achieve its target of growing the digital economy to 22.6 per cent of Malaysia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2025,” he said.
So far, Tengku Zafrul said, TikTok through ByteDance System has developed a data center in Sedenak Tech Park, Kulai, Johor.

According to him, taking into account the future needs of the company, it also intends to expand its data center facilities with an additional investment of RM1.5 billion.
