Kamala Harris wants to introduce price controls to fight inflation
But if you look at history, price controls usually end up backfiring. Take the U.S. in the 70s—Nixon tried price controls, and instead of helping, it led to one of the biggest inflation spikes we've ever seen.
Venezuela is another example. They put in price controls in 2003, and inflation jumped to 60%. Then in 2014, they doubled down, and inflation went through the roof—like 54 million percent.
In the Soviet Union, price controls were the norm. There were days, even weeks, when people couldn’t get meat or fruit. And if you wanted bread, you’d have to stand in a line so long you wouldn’t believe it, just to maybe get some.
Sure, saying you’ll make things cheaper sounds great and might win some votes. But in reality, price controls don’t fix the real issues. They just cover up the symptoms and usually end up making things way worse.
