Looking back at Malaysia's GDP, how do you view Q2?
The chart above shows the GDP trends of Malaysia over the past 30 years, with the past 3 instances of negative growth being the Asia financial crisis, the USA subprime mortgage crisis, and the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown.
The growth in 2022 is due to the low base in 2021. The IMF predicts that the GDP of our country in 2023 will be between 4.3 - 4.5%. Malaysia's GDP growth in the first quarter was 5.6%, with consumption growth slowing in Q2 and exports declining. The market expects GDP growth to be lower than Q1.
This Friday the GDP for Q2 will be released. Feel free to leave a comment guessing how much Q2's GDP will be. The author's personal guess is 3.6%, so please leave your own predicted number in the comments. Let's see who guesses the closest number on Friday. 😎
