The chart above shows Malaysia's GDP trend over the past 30 years. The past 3 negative developments were the Asian financial turmoil, the US subprime mortgage crisis, and the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown.
Growth in 2022 is due to the low base in 2021, and the IMF estimates that China's GDP in 2023 will be between 4.3 and 4.5%. Malaysia's GDP growth in the first quarter was 5.6%. Consumption growth slowed in Q2 and exports declined, and the market expected GDP growth to be lower than in Q1.
