While Lumen’s direct involvement with the XScale initiative isn’t heavily publicized, Lumen’s role in network services for cloud providers aligns well with the expansion of Equinix’s XScale data centers.
Over the next two years, Equinix plans to build several new xScale data centers, driven by a joint venture (JV) with GIC (Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund) and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. This JV will provide over $15 billion in capital to develop large-scale hyperscale data centers across the U.S., aimed at supporting the growing demand for AI and cloud infrastructure. Specifically, Equinix expects to add more than 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity through multiple 100+ MW campuses in the U.S., significantly expanding its xScale portfolio .
