Micron Technology works closely with imec, a world-renowned research center for nanoelectronics and digital technology, based in Leuven, Belgium. Forksheet & Neuromorphic chips, the future?

$Micron Technology (MU.US)$  This collaboration focuses on the development of the most advanced semiconductor technologies. *Important aspects of their collaboration are:
1. *Advanced chip technology*: Imec provides a neutral, open platform where global partners, including Micron, can use the most advanced equipment to develop the semiconductor technology of the future.
2. *EUROPEAN Chips Act*: Imec plays a "crucial role" in the EU Chips Act, with an investment of 2.5 billion euros to set up a new R&D pilot line for advanced chip technology and systems on chip. This pilot line will enable companies, including Micron, to test and develop the latest chip technologies.
3. *Innovation and Collaboration*: This collaboration allows Micron to benefit from the expertise and infrastructure of one of the most advanced research centers in the world. This helps accelerate innovations and develop future-oriented products.
Here are some examples: Advanced DRAM development: Micron and imec have collaborated on the development of advanced DRAM technologies, including

the optimization of 1-alpha DRAM processes. This collaboration focuses on improving the performance and efficiency of DRAM memories,  which is essential for applications such as data centers and high-performance computing.
3D NAND flash memory: Another important project is the development of 3D NAND flash memory. This technology makes it possible to store more data in a smaller space, which is crucial for the growing demand for storage capacity in mobile devices and solid-state drives (SSDs).
Micron Technology has recently made some "major breakthroughs" in the semiconductor industry:
1β Process for LPDDR5X: Micron has successfully implemented the 1β Process in the development of LPDDR5X memory. This technology is already integrated into Apple's iPhone 15 series and offers improved performance and energy efficiency.
Collaboration with NVIDIA: Micron contributed to the development of NVIDIA's GB200 AI superchip by delivering 5th generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM3E). This collaboration highlights Micron's role in the advancement of AI technologies. New materials and processes > this includes research into new lithography techniques and materials that can improve the performance of future generations of chips. Micron already has a sophisticated Nano lithography machine from asml!
And further ... Imec is actively researching energy-efficient nanochips with some notable breakthroughs. DIANA AI chip: Imec and KU Leuven have developed the DIGital and ANalog Accelerator (DIANA), a hybrid AI chip that combines both digital and analog coprocessors.
This chip performs calculations in the most energy-efficient way, which is crucial for applications such as robots and drones. And drones are  game changers in a war?
Forksheet transistors: Imec has developed a “new kind of transistor”, the forksheet transistor, that enables chips under 2 nanometers. This technology reduces the distance between transistors, leading to more powerful and energy-efficient chips.  And most importantly, Mu is now also collaborating to develop “ Neuromorphic chips” that mimic the “functioning of the brain”. These chips are up to "a thousand" times more efficient than current AI networks and can help drones and self-driving cars make decisions at lightning speed.
These Neuromorphic chips boost the functioning of the HUMAN BRAIN and result in more efficient and energy-efficient calculations. These Neuromorphic AI chips  can learn and adapt like human brains. These chips are particularly useful for applications such as autonomous and advanced systems.  This also includes research into new transistor architectures and materials that improve the energy efficiency and performance of these chips.
These chips are also deployed in edge computing, where they perform calculations directly on devices instead of on cloud servers. And that is an important innovation!
This reduces latency and energy consumption which is crucial for applications such as facial recognition and natural language processing (LLM).
These efforts demonstrate Micron's commitment to developing advanced and energy-efficient chip technologies that can transform the future of AI and computing. They therefore go a step further than regular AI CHIPS.
Other companies such as Intel and IBM are also working on neuromorphic chips, but there are major differences. The difference is in the number of millions of synapses and the structure of 2D > 3D at the atomic level.
By purchasing the Quantum lithography machine from asml, Mu hopes to take a completely new path?
