[Moo Brief] Collab with Dell & Super Micro Computer: Musk's AI PC dream leaps forward?
On Wednesday, Musk revealed at X that his AI startup, xAI, has successfully teamed up with $Dell Technologies (DELL.US)$ and $Super Micro Computer (SMCI.US)$ to power his supercomputer's server racks jointly. Following the announcement, $Super Micro Computer (SMCI.US)$ and $Dell Technologies (DELL.US)$ experienced a surge of 4.78% and 3.18% respectively in after-hours trading, as of 11:11 PM ET on June 19th.
As to Musk's statement, "Dell is assembling half of the racks that will be incorporated into the supercomputer that xAI is building," with $Super Micro Computer (SMCI.US)$ handling the production of the remaining half. Previously, $Super Micro Computer (SMCI.US)$ was well-known for providing liquid cooling technology with $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$ chips.
The concept of AI PC is not new, and since founding xAI last year, Musk has set an ambitious goal: to create a supercomputer that will incorporate xAI's large language model chatbot, Grok, by the fall of 2025. Powerful liquid cooling and storage devices, along with a substantial amount of computing power, are normally needed for training LLMs. Musk's supercomputer is designed to match these needs.
To put it succinctly, the growth of AI PC and LLM is contingent upon the innovative and tight cooperation of different parts across the whole industry chain. What role do you believe $Dell Technologies (DELL.US)$ and $Super Micro Computer (SMCI.US)$ will play in Musk's pursuit of his AI PC dream?
