G'day mooers! How's it going?
It's so good that moomoo companied with you for this while. Recently, we Aussies just went through Aussie Father's Day; mooers are also discussing these topics recently, each bringing their unique perspectives and experiences to the table.
What's one luxury you had to cut back on due to the high cost of living?
Are Australians losing faith in hard work?
... Let's dive in here!

During the moomoo community's Aussie Father's Day event (8.29-9.9), we've received lots of memories & stories about mooers and their fathers. Some of them are interesting and heartwarming. Shall we take a look at that?
"That day, we didn't just drive home in a new car; we drove home with a memory that's worth more than any stock portfolio. And that's the story between me and my dad, mate."
@Longtrunk: measure twice cut once. - wish my son would buy me a tesla.
"Coming from little stability, my goal is to provide consistency, love, and financial stability for my beautiful daughter. I will be the best partner I can, and I will always put my two before myself, because I know they would do the same for me."
"When I was a kid, my dad taught us budgeting using Monopoly money. Each week he would give us some money, and we had to pay off expenses like rent and groceries, with the goal of saving enough for fun things. He showed me how to prioritize, plan, and even adapt to surprises using the 50/30/20 rule."
"At least my dad taught me how valuable money (and time) was in life, even if we only had just enough food for the week, and to at least try to grow what you can. As well, always try something new and keep learning (how to get more money)"

What's one luxury you had to cut back on due to the high cost of living?
@51IDN: As a recent graduate entering the workforce, my pre-tax salary of $95,000 still requires me to cut back due to the high cost of living. Considering I have an AUD47,000 HECS-HELP loan and aspire to purchase a home in Melbourne, I now have to look for other ways to relax, such as hiking or joining free sports leagues.
@what if: Holidays
@RichTraid: A percussion massager is a godsend for the price after stressful days. I need to stop getting Uber Eats...
@Leticia: Spend it on books
@152359312: The best investment 1 can make is in yourself. You can try doing a course that you are interested in, doing a sport or just simply go outdoor for a trip in Melbourne etc. Looking after 1 either physically or mentally will go a long way.
@VicTAN: I cut back on eating out & spend less at Coles & Woolworths!

Are Australians losing faith in hard work?
The Edelman Trust Barometer reveals a decline in trust towards societal institutions and capitalism due to rising inequality sentiments, notably a widespread disbelief in the promise of a better life through hard work, especially pronounced in Australia.
@Philip_AU: simply working hard does not always translate into the expected success or better quality of life. In Australia's high-benefit, high-cost society, individual efforts often need to be complemented by good opportunities, policy support, and a reasonable income distribution system in order to achieve a truly improved quality of life.
@ohrivr: Success requires hard work because it is through dedication and effort that one learns to balance work and personal life effectively. This balance is crucial for managing responsibilities and achieving both professional success and personal fulfilment. The idea of smart work versus hard work is often misunderstood, especially among younger people who believe that smart work alone can lead to success. However, this view is flawed because one can not work smart without first gaining the foundational knowledge and skills that come from hard work.

The impact of immigration on the Australian economy
The ASX market has experienced significant fluctuations in line with the US market's drop on the first trading day of September. Considering various factors related to Australia's macroeconomy, a recent review of Australia's immigration policy has led to @rylar's concern:
I was reading through an article on immigration today (also discussed in reddit) and feeling frustrated. Economists, it seemed, were pointing fingers at immigration as a potential contributor to economic stagnation. My dad has a Chinese student. That guy said the real estate prices kept declining in China this year. We also owned a house in suburb, and the selling market is ... Is it a good timing to make it into cash?

EVs vs. FVs: Is the new generation car an appetite for you?
@assailed shares insights into the multifaceted benefits of electric vehicles:
In contrast, traditional fuel cars, despite their long history and mature technology, are lagging behind in terms of environmental protection and energy efficiency. I'm happy I made the switch (from Corolla to Tesla Model Y) and have noticed a bunch of subtle advantages to EVs in general. I'm not a $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ shareholder. Instead I invested heavily in ASX mining companies. But things like investment philosophy never bother me when it comes to the personal and property safety of me and my family.

A mooer recounted their aspiration to own a Melbourne home, inspired by an uncle who secured wealth through property. With a good job and income, they aimed to replicate their uncle's success, aiming for mortgage-free ownership by 40.
@51IDN: The idea of having a piece of the city to call my own filled me with excitement. I figured if I had the money, why not do it now. Paying the mortgage now would allow me to have a paid off property at an early age (just as my uncle, he did that at his 30s, which means he had over $800,000 in fixed assets before he turned 40 and then lived a comfortable life).
