Moomoo Has Answered Our Wish: Fractional Shares

Fractional shares was one of the items in my Christmas Wishlist 2021 as many mooers had expressed an interest in that feature. moomoo replied then that it was in the pipeline. I’m happy to share that the ability to buy fractional shares via moomoo SG is finally here! You will need to update your moomoo app to be able to use this feature.

The advantages are:

1) One can invest in stocks that may otherwise be beyond one’s means such as $iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV.US)$ , $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$ , $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ . The minimum quantity to get started is 0.0001 share, subject to a minimum amount of $5.

2) One can diversify with a smaller budget.

3) It is easier to set up a regular investment plan based on a fixed sum of money eg USD50 a month. However, do note that the standard fees apply when trading more than 1 share —> US Stocks, ETFs & Fractional Shares-moomoo Help Center

The limitations are:

1) It is only available for selected stocks and ETFs listed in the US.

2) It is only possible to place market orders, not limit orders. Only day orders are available i.e. no GTC (90 days).

3) After submission, the order cannot be edited.

4) Short selling is not available.

Getting Started

Go to Markets > US > Fractional Shares

The symbol showing that fractional shares are supported can be seen in the Detailed Quotes page.

Select Trade

You can either specify a dollar amount or a fractional quantity.
