Alphabet's (NASDAQ:
GOOG) (
GOOGL) Google unveiled Gemini 2.0 Flash experimental model on Wednesday, heating up tech competition with OpenAI with its latest AI model.
The U.S. tech giant is also launching a new feature called Deep Research, which uses advanced reasoning and long context capabilities to act as a research assistant, exploring complex topics and compiling reports on users' behalf. It will be available to Gemini Advanced subscribers from today.
Google said it is bringing Gemini 2.0 to AI Overviews to tackle more complex topics and multi-step questions, including advanced math equations, multimodal queries and coding. The company added that it began limited testing this week and will roll it out more broadly early next year. Google also plans to bring AI Overviews to more countries and languages over the next year.
Google noted that Gemini 2.0 is built on custom hardware like Trillium, its sixth-generation Tensor Processing Units, or TPUs. TPUs powered 100% of Gemini 2.0 training and inference.
Starting today, the Trillium chip will be generally available to customers, according to the company.
