Bursa Malaysia breaches 1,600-mark in early trade
Bursa Malaysia opened above the 1,600 psychological mark on Tuesday, extending its gains due to strong performance on Wall Street overnight that signaled hope for upcoming rate cuts. On the broader market, gainers led decliners 225 to 119, while turnover amounted to 167.87 million units worth RM83.01 million. FBM KLCI: Sunway expected to join, AMMB to exit
Sunway Bhd may potentially join the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI in the upcoming semi-annual review of the benchmark index on June 24 and replace AMMB Holdings Bhd, according to MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Bhd's equity strategy report. The report noted that Sunway saw a meteoric rise in its share price, ranking it at the 24th spot in terms of market capitalisation. The research house said it believes Sunway's inclusion into the barometer index is more-or-less guaranteed as it conforms to both the free float and liquidity requirements. The report estimated that all the top 40 shares met the free float requirement of over 15%.
