Economists Suggest Malaysia Would Benefit from Joining BRICS
Economists suggest that joining the BRICS group would help Malaysia to diversify its trade and investment and improve access to broader markets. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd Chief Economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid believes that becoming a BRICS member country would reduce Malaysia's overreliance on the US dollar for trade settlements, potentially improving predictability in the currency market and lowering transaction costs for exporters and importers. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced that Malaysia would begin the process of joining the BRICS group soon.
