My P&L before the year end. Summary of my 2024 investing journey. 🤩💭
a little introduction from me 😎: I’m 24 years old, i get my money from working part time and i come from an average income family background, (which i am so so grateful) to be able to get financial support to further persuing my charted accouting cert (ACCA) full time with only my final few papers left to finish in 2025.
I started out my investing journey with a sole purpose to get wealthy 💰 💴 by investing in good dividend and growth stock. Reason for this is because i got so motivated looking at people from social media sharing their monster dividend portfolio that is enough to sustain a above average lifestyle. Adding on, I also watched alot of Warren Buffet’s videos and took motivation from it.
By following the other’s footsteps in investing most of my money in MY 🇲🇾 market, i was incurring losses for months and as a beginner i was losing so much patience. (disclaimer: MY does have good stocks but it is slower in growth compared to US market). Then, at the start of Nov i started doing the total opposite of all my favorite influencers by investing in trending space & avaition stocks and a lil bit of quantum computing stocks that have been booming recently.
Truth to be told 💀💀💀, it was NOT a smooth journey at all because i literally lost 40% of my portfolio at one point of time. The night of loss, i tried to stay as calm as possible and eventually found my own strategy to beat the market.
What ive learned throughout my journey is
1) ALWAYS have a strategy when it comes to trading is DO NOT be afraid to cut your losses by setting stop loss and also take profits when its due.
2) Opportunity arises when market is down and always be able to capitalise on it when people are fearful.
3) MOST IMPORTANTLY, learning how to manage my emotions after taking losses by not trying to make back the losses immediately and ended-up losing it all.
for the upcoming year, i hope i can continue to beat the market and hopefully doubling up my return.
