My Wishlist is already fulfilled, but perhaps just a little bit more.....
I was hit with a multitude of projects due to my Final Year of poly reaching its end, hence why I wasn't able to write as much or be as engaged with the community as I used to be. This is going to be a
2024 feature improvement recap and wishlist for 2025 post, so it'll be kinda? Lengthy.
Fortunately however, I returned to Moomoo with a multitude of
UI improvements and overhauls, especially in the
options section that I touched alot on in my previous articles:
First and foremost, let's start with the initial screening process for stocks to trade options on.
for stocks sorted by IV percentile (I find percentile more accurate than IV rank.).
However, with recent improvements to the Moomoo desktop app, it's removed the need for this.
If anything, it's become
MORE convenient, not only can I sort the underlying stocks by
highest IV percentile, I can also
FILTER them by a
IV percentile and
Market cap range that shows this blue bar histogram (I think its a histogram?), allowing us to figure out the distribution of all companies under each filter.
This is a
huge upgrade to what I was previously using (and barchart is actually paywalled cuz i need to get premium version to see anything beyond 50 or so tickers lol.), with effectively
no cost, similar to their
FREE morningstar data, which ive written about as well:
Moomoo releases new Morningstar data for stocks. After finding the stocks that you want to trade options on, naturally you'd want to take a look at the options chain.
Nearing the end of 2024, Moomoo added
new features to the options chain, to replicate the UI and functionality of
Tastytrade, one of the most
well-known options brokers in the US, and
optionstrat, a popular options strategy planning tool.
While the main options tab has not changed, you'll notice there are some new tabs, Strategy builder and Earnings.
I will say that while the strategy builder isnt something new, the Earnings tab definitely is.
This strategy builder tool does exist on other third party websites, but as you can guess....they're all paid, premium services.
Moomoo's implementation is by far one of the
most refined implementations I have seen.
To compare, we can take a look at optionstrat again, where while their implementation is similar to Moomoo's, their data is also
delayed by 15 minutes, and
costs a premium for the full version.
I think Moomoo's implementation with the DTE shown is quite handy too, something that optionstrat lacks.
Lastly for the tabs section, we have earnings analysis.
This section is quite interesting, as it displays historical earnings beats and the corresponding stock movement together with the IV change, in the form of a box and whisker looking graph.
i find this extremely useful as it helps me gauge if my options strategy is likely to be affected by IV drop during earnings, and benefits both long and short positions.
For long positions, you could use this to identify whether or not a stock is volatile enough to beat it's IV crush (moves more than expected), or if its a low-volatility stock and rarely ever moves more than than is expected (cuz IV crush wld benefit ur short position).
Regardless this is quite
innovative and very impressive.
Finally, let's get to the highlight of all options features added, the options chain curve view.
It is very similar to optionstrat's version, albeit its free, contains more information, and uses real-time data.
optionstrat.com's implementation Around mid to end 2024 was when Moomoo started asking for feature additions to their options functionality, and I suggested them to seek inspiration from the likes of Tastytrade and Optionstrat.com, to which today I can safely say
eliminates my need to utilize these third party platforms (and
saves me the money of their respective premium prices.)
I have changed the image to make the explanations clearer.
Essentially, they added in this curve view whenever you trade an option strategy.
Like on optionstrat.com, it shows the P&L curve of the option, allows you to modify the expiry and strike price from the graph itself.
This allows you to move the legs up and down the price graph and dynamically updates the P&L curve and strategy.
Not only that, but we have more information shown now, such as correlations to various market indices if you're using options for their actual intended purpose (as a hedge).
The strategy greeks are shown for free as well, whereas other websites typically require you to pay to obtain them.
Alongside this, the way Moomoo shows fees is also very clean and convenient now, its a simple popup now.
That wraps up all the options improvements I wanted to write about, all in all they are very nice feature additions and I'll likely not require any other platforms if they continue implementing everything into their desktop app lol.
Oh yeah, fees need to be more competitive, or at the very least make the commission promo work on legged trades :<
What do I want to see added in for 2025 and onwards?
As Moomoo has added or fixed most of the issues ive written about throughout 2024, im not rlly left with much else that i would want added.
What i did notice is that the analysis section of stocks dont actually have much information on it, as i mentioned in previous articles, the analysis section of a stock is still under-utilitzed.
They could use this space to add in the mini-bar graphs that show financial data trends of a ticker, similar to whats being done on mobile.
Not sure why this hasnt been implemented yet, especially since the financials tab also doesnt have any graphs, its honestly wasted potential/space imo. (unless im blind and it has existed the whole time.)
The other thing i would want added is the ability to see a fund's performance and subscribe/redeem through the desktop app.
This would make the desktop app an effectively all-in-one solution.
Also, having fund details on desktop would make it more convenient to see fees/coupons ive paid or received.
That's all i have for this article, I'm quite busy this quarter so i might not make a new post until i dunno CNY or smthn. Happy New Years!
P.S Gib me feature experience officer pls (especially if its options related)

Cherry2024 : Hello, Gd am, just a quick question are we still using our HP to view those charts and new features or we are.able to use our ?
Thy GoD OP : Oh yeah, forgot to add that having visualized trailing orders (or any order for that matter) would be rlly helpful, something like what Tradingview does where you can see the order as a line and move it up/down
Thy GoD OP Cherry2024 : those are desktop only features, they may come to mobile eventually, but all this data is extremely hard to fit onto a phone, its more convenient to have it on a larger screen.
Thy GoD OP Thy GoD OP : However, the screener features i talked about are also on mobile.
Cherry2024 Thy GoD OP : Tks! I think it's easier to view them on PC too
