The number of newly built single-family housing units sold in May (seasonally adjusted) announced by the U.S. Department of Commerce on the 26th was 619,000 units, down 11.3% from the previous month in terms of an annualized rate, which is a low level since November last year. The market forecast compiled by Reuters was 640,000 units.
It was shown once again that rising mortgage interest rates are putting pressure on demand.
The number of units sold in April was 698,000 units, which was revised upward from the 634,000 units announced last time.
