A complex tale of trust gone wrong has emerged, as reported by Moomoo Lily, our vigilant community moderator. A user who lent their account to someone else ended up with a banned account, showing that even simple mistakes can have serious consequences. Let's take a closer look at this alarming new scam.
New scam exposed: Contact sharing and account lending
Here's how it went down:
1. Mooer A met a stranger on moomoo. After some back-and-forth chatting, they exchanged WhatsApp contact details.

2. They kept in touch on WhatsApp, and Mooer A signed up for a crypto investment website the stranger recommended.

3. Initially, Mooer A profited and trusted the stranger enough to call them"master", eventually lending them their moomoo account.

4. The so-called "master" then used Mooer A's moomoo account to tempt other mooers with promises of quick profits, directing them to WhatsApp and into unregulated investments.

5. One day, Mooer A couldn't withdraw money from the investment website and realized it was a scam, and their moomoo account had been banned.

Lily wants to remind everyone:
1) Exercise discretion when adding "strangers" to your contacts
We often meet new people on social platforms, but think twice before sharing your contact info with someone you don't know well. It's generally not a good idea to give out your personal details to strangers, even if they seem friendly or interesting.
2) Be critical of obscure investment websites
We all want to see our investments grow, but it's vital to remain skeptical and not fall for misleading promises. Don't be swayed by enticing advertisements from investment websites you don't know well. Take the time to research and weigh the risks and returns before diving in.
3) Never lend out your account details
Your account password is a crucial piece of your digital identity and should be kept confidential. Never share or lend your account details to someone whose trustworthiness is not well established. Unwarranted sharing can lead to your account being banned, personal data being compromised, and potential legal issues if your account is misused.
4) Watch out for any investment advice, even from "familiar" sources
We often receive investment tips on social media, sometimes from acquaintances or people we consider friends. While these tips might be based on their experiences, they could also be misleading or part of a scam. Therefore, it's wise to remain cautious and critically evaluate such advice. Remember, what's suitable for one person's financial goals and risk appetite may not align with yours. Always tailor any investment advice to your specific needs and circumstances.
