New US unemployment insurance claims fall unexpectedly by 0.227 million, down 7,000

August 15, 2024 11:36 PM GMT+9
The number of new unemployment insurance claims (seasonally adjusted) for the week up to 8/10 announced by the US Department of Labor on the 15th fell 7,000 from the previous week to 227,000 cases and unexpectedly fell below economists' expectations (235,000 cases). It was suggested that the labor market continues to slow down. Meanwhile, it takes time for laid-off workers to take up new jobs.
The number of continuous payments per week until August 3 decreased by 7,000 to 1,864,000. This was close to the level seen in the latter half of 2021, and it was suggested that there would be an increase in workers who have been unemployed for a long time.
