The CEO invested in useless project which were a long shot ( e.g. nuclear fusion), burned a lot of money and now firing poor hard working employees to divert investors attention from low delivery numbers. If at all CEO should be fired first to waste so much money in useless projects.

My point is that the company like Google and Amazon can work on the long term and risky project because they have good cash flow from their other businesses, however, a startup has to manage its capital efficiently otherwise it can go bankrupt. NiO was trying to enter in the phone business which is very competitive and that too in flagship phone, now there is news that phone department will be impacted heavily by layoffs.
