Nomura Securities' market manipulation, major institutional investors suspended some trades - sources

Last updated on October 18, 2024 13:59 JST (excerpt)
Life insurance companies and asset management firms experiencing consecutive bond and stock trades - resumption possible with preventive measures in place
Moves to exclude lead underwriters from corporate bond underwriting, the Ministry of Finance has temporarily suspended special qualifications for government bonds.
In response to Nomura Securities, a subsidiary of Nomura Holdings, manipulating government bond prices, multiple domestic major institutional investors such as life insurance companies, asset management companies, and trust banks have generally suspended trading in securities such as bonds and stocks with the same security.
Several informed sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that at least 10 companies have suspended trading. If Nomura Securities takes preventive measures against recurrence, there is a possibility of resuming transactions. In addition, some transactions deemed necessary by institutional investors with the same security may still take place.
