$NVIDIA(NVDA.US)$ I preface a lot of what I'm saying by letting people know I have many decades in the business that I started in the '80s and a few people question my validity and say it's bullshit ...whatever. when I started out unless you had a prominent family whose dad worked on Wall Street or unless you went to an ivy League school or knew someone you couldn't get an internship or a job at Merrill Lynch or shearson Lehman Brothers or Solomon Brothers it was impossible. so you did what I did you just picked up the telephone and you started calling companies and see if they were hiring if they had a training program and they'd be willing to give you a shot. and back then it was the yellow pages Ruben Donnelly yellow pages open it up and smile and dial and one company said yes we are hiring when do you want to come down for an interview. so I did and that began my career.
a member was asking me questions yesterday if I ever worked in a place that was similar to  the Wolf of Wall Street when I started. and I said yes I did I worked for a company for a brief period of time that was actually the king of penny stocks far larger than Jordan Belfort's company ever was or became. and I have a collection of old rate sheets because the stocks we used to make markets and way back when nobody else did so they would print up on a piece of paper the stock prices and you could see the spreads and you could sell in the spread and that's how you made the money as a broker that's how you made clients money you don't put them all the way out to the offer you put them in the spread then you cross it to somebody else and they make an instant profit and then the hook is set if you will. where I'm going with this is one of the pitch sheets on a company that we made a market in was involved in artificial intelligence. I got a laugh out of it because I haven't looked at this paperwork in well since the 80s I thought some of you might get a kick out of it. and you thought artificial intelligence was a brand new thing well guess again.

  • MomentumPython1337 : that's beautiful thanks for sharing and happy birthday

  • iced9999 : was that the reason all the while you sat and see it skyrocketing and was focusing on other more fundamental stocks? *still learning*

  • 10baggerbamm OP iced9999 : not sure what your question is honestly. investing is a lifelong endeavor. one is always learning there are no experts because many people on here have taken shots because sometimes they don't know any better and sometimes they have the income to recoup the losses if it doesn't work out. others may work within the industry and are extremely familiar with products and service and technology that gives them an edge and sometimes they just have big brass ones and the returns that many of you guys have made are astounding they're incredible.  I admire that immensely. so I learn everyday from people on this forum. I think it's probably the greatest universe, the greatest assembly of minds that are geared towards investing .  Fidelity has nothing like this Schwab has nothing like this Goldman Sachs has nothing like this. so I'm very fortunate to have found it back in February. I wish it was earlier on because I'm able to read and learn from so many people from around the world and get viewpoints that maybe diametrically opposite of mine and one realizes that they're right that they know more than you they have a different perspective and that's where one has to learn that ego and pride are what cause immense losses in the stock market. you have to listen to other people and you have to learn from other people continuously.

  • iced9999 : yup. I see lots of people here and read about their comments and learnt from them too. nothing beats learning here.

  • The real Honey bee : What is all about?

  • 10baggerbamm OP The real Honey bee : and what's it about is it's about learning.. and I guess the reason why I posted this is NVIDIA and Jensen is considered to be the godfather of artificial intelligence. yesterday in passing while speaking to another member I dug up some old paperwork from the 1980s and it just so happened that one of the companies that we made a market in, that we use to sell stock to customers...the opening line says that they're involved in artificial intelligence. so I thought people would get a kick out of the fact that AI is not something new it's been around since the 1980s and if you read the company profile in the picture you'll see and learn a little bit about what life was like in the 1980s pitching a penny stock.. so when people see The Wolf of Wall Street Jordan Belfort he wasn't the king Meyer Blinder was the king of penny stocks. Meyer through his publicly traded company InterContinental enterprises became a billionaire. back when a billion dollars was a lot of money.

35+ yrs in the trenches, raised tens of millions for start ups, syndicate ipo's, yrs on trading desk mkt maker.
