The International Longshoremen's Association, USA, announced on September 25th that if the two sides cannot reach a new agreement before the contract expires on September 30th, tens of thousands of workers at more than 30 terminals along the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico in the USA will go on a major strike starting on October 1st. Some industry insiders are concerned that a large-scale port strike could have a 'devastating impact' on the US economy and create a 'perfect storm' for the global supply chain.
