Strengthening the Self-Driving Cars research team, adding 200 staff in Beijing - China remains a critical market
The leading US semiconductor company NVIDIA has increased its staff in China this year. The aim is to enhance research capabilities and focus on developing new Self-Driving Cars technologies.
The number of employees is expected to reach about 4,000 by the end of 2024. It was approximately 3,000 at the beginning of the year, as disclosed by several knowledgeable sources.
As a core of their personnel expansion strategy, NVIDIA added about 200 staff in Beijing to strengthen the Self-Driving Cars research team. One source, on the condition of anonymity due to confidential information, revealed that NVIDIA also expanded its After-Sales Service and Networking Software Development teams.
In response to strong demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI) chips, NVIDIA is increasing its workforce worldwide. While China is unable to sell cutting-edge semiconductors to the USA due to export restrictions, its revenue for the previous quarter still reached $5.4 billion (approximately ¥822 billion). China remains an important market and research base for the company.
While NVIDIA is attempting to maintain a good relationship with the Chinese government, China has revealed this week that it is investigating the situation surrounding the acquisition of US Mellanox Technologies on suspicion of violating antitrust laws.
NVIDIA officials declined to comment.
