NVIDIA is set to announce the RTX 5000 series GPU at CES 2025 – hinting at an early introduction in 'The Witcher 4' trailer.

In line with CES in January 2025, NVIDIA has initiated a large-scale marketing campaign strongly suggesting the announcement of the next-generation GPU, the 'GeForce RTX 5000 series.'The cinematic trailer for 'The Witcher 4' unveiled at The Game Awards 2024 specifies production with an 'unreleased GeForce RTX GPU,' alongside multiple initiatives such as the simultaneous launch of 'GeForce LAN 50,' intensifying expectations for new product reveals.Includes production using an 'unreleased GeForce RTX GPU,' and the simultaneous launch of 'GeForce LAN 50,' among other initiatives, which are raising expectations for new product announcements.
Strategic announcement timing and multiple teaser campaigns.
NVIDIA is implementing a series of carefully planned marketing initiatives. At the center of this is the 'GeForce LAN 50' event, starting from January 4th. This 50-hour gaming marathon event can be participated in not only through on-site events in Las Vegas, Berlin, Taipei, and Beijing, but also online.
The number '50' included in the event name clearly suggests the next-generation RTX 5000 series. What's even more noteworthy is that the end time of this event coincides perfectly with the start time of the CES keynote by Jensen Huang, the CEO. It is strongly indicative that a significant product announcement is scheduled, as Huang will be presenting directly at CES for the first time since 2019.
Details of the Blackwell Architecture are gradually becoming clear.
According to leaked information, the core Blackwell Architecture of the RTX 5000 series adopts TSMC's 4NP (5nm grade) process, achieving a 30% higher density compared to the current 4N.
The flagship model, RTX 5090, will feature the GB202 GPU, implementing 21,760 CUDA cores. It will come with 32GB of GDDR7 memory and a 512-bit interface, with an estimated power consumption of around 600W. On the other hand, the RTX 5080 will adopt the GB203 GPU, with 10,752 CUDA cores and 16GB of memory, consuming 400W.
NVIDIA's approach to this product announcement is showing quite an intriguing development. Collaborations with major titles like 'The Witcher 4' and hosting global LAN parties present a festive aspect beyond a mere product announcement.
However, a concerning point is the power consumption. The 600W specification of the RTX 5090 goes against the current trend of increasing sustainability awareness. Additionally, with AMD declaring to avoid competition in the next-generation flagship market, the pricing is also a cause for concern.
Amid NVIDIA's thriving AI business, there is a visible effort to establish an exclusive position in the gaming GPU market. Yet, this could be a double-edged sword. Excessive pricing may lead to market fragmentation and user defection in the long run. It will be interesting to see how Jensen Huang, the CEO, addresses these concerns in his presentation.
