Global IT Outage: $MSFT, $CRWD, $DAL, $UAL, $S
— On Thursday night, Microsoft services experienced issues, causing Frontier Airlines to ground flights for two hours and impacting other operations.
— Many Windows users faced crashes and blue screens due to a CrowdStrike update, specifically from the Falcon Sensor, which caused bug checks and errors.
— By 1 a.m. Friday, Microsoft reported the issues with Azure and Microsoft 365 were resolved in the US, but problems persisted elsewhere and they continue to work on it.
— The problem spread globally, affecting banks, airports, and airlines in Japan and Australia. The London Stock Exchange and Sky News in the UK and Australia also faced disruptions.
— The outage affected major US airlines like American, Delta $AAL, and United $UAL, causing ground stops due to communication issues just after Microsoft's cloud services outage.
— Airlines resorted to manual check-ins and handwritten boarding passes.
— This situation led to disruptions in 911 services across several US states, including Alaska, Arizona, Indiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Ohio.
— McDonald's Japan suspended about a third of its stores nationwide on Friday due to a systems outage impacting cash registers.
— This isn't just impacting everywhere, it's impacting everyone from Payment services to transportation to almost everything that requires tech.
Just an important point on this, as there seems to be some misunderstandings: this isn't a major "Microsoft outage." It's a $CRWD CrowdStrike issue impacting Microsoft PCs
MomentumPython1337 OP : so here's what i did. i have X shares of CRWD on a platform that doesn't allow me to trade overnight, but I have IBKR that allows me to short shares.
so i shorted exactly X shares on IBKR for CRWD this puts me delta neutral so it doesn't matter if the stock drops 50% today it means nothign to me because my shorts will gain money while the X shares i have on the other platform will lose the same amount.
do I think CRWD can recover today? i think it's unlikely given the scale of this this is not just an isolated outage it's global and affects millions of people
MomentumPython1337 OP : i don't know what's the ripple effect of this i think SPY and QQQ will see a red day again because sentiment has been dwindling recently and this may just feed the FUD. i don't know to be honest
Pipidaddy : Put option expiring next Friday is the way! This thing doesn’t get resolved over the weekend, MS is gonna take a hit
MomentumPython1337 OP Pipidaddy : the put option will be expensive, I don't know if it's a good time to buy it, and the implied volatility will be high as well.
perhaps selling covered call is an option
Pipidaddy MomentumPython1337 OP : If you’re a shareholder, of course
