Opinion on GLP from a long term shareholder (me)
$Global Partners (GLP.US)$ My first share lot buy of GLP was during the COVID market crash, about $9 per share. I found this little known company while searching for oversold oil and gas companies particularly mid-stream. However, this is not a mid-stream company it's a 75 year-old family owned partnership that is rather unique in the oil/fuel industry. They own and operate a chain of retail gasoline stations, large commercial fuel terminals, and storage. Wholesale operations. Their range of physical assets and operations make this company rather unique, yet it sometimes trades short term in parallel to mega oil and gas companies. When breaking news that affects the oil industry fades, GLP's trading goes back to their unique business model and fundamentals. I'm not an expert in oil and gas, just a long individual trader that has good pattern recognition. So my non-professional advice based on buying more share lots over several years is this: Don't jump in or out of this stock on a whim. Trade volume average is low and it's price often shifts quickly intraday and short term. I've made a few mistakes buying a share lots too high, but many successes buying on those major dips that seem to be caused by overall oil market sentiment. Right now (Dec 8th, 2023) every lot is in the green, however it took a long time for a lot I bought at $35 to now be out of the red. But it also has a very good dividend that has been consistent. That has well covered any short term paper losses. I've not yet sold any lots bought for that reason and they seem to amaze their company very well. Be careful right now if you're thinking of buying based on it's current upward trend. It's price is is at a 4 year high. It could be on the verge of a major business leap or could be a short term trend. I don't know either way. For a more stable price and excellent dividend GLP.A and GLP.C are worth a look. Again, I'm not an expert nor major shareholder or insider. Just an individual investor that likes this company because it's been a good investment, and family-owned partnerships are often well managed especially when the family is still the majority shareholder after 75 years.
