In my final post for this series, I want to share my personal behavioural change, the implication, and needed forwad action after almost 3 months of immersion in the stock market.
I put so much time and energy into it sine early June until I almost completely neglected my good-old boring bread-and-butter business, which is the real low-effort, high-return part of my life.
Why? New shiny thing syndrome, playing catch-up since I'm so late to the game and the sheer efficiency of the financial market mechanism. I'm not trying to blame something external or make excuses for my own behaviour. I'm just reflecting and sharing.
As you can see from the chart below. My wealth did not grow but has shrunk instead despite my intensity and determination to make this work.
The concept of diversification is much broader than how people use the word in the investment world. As I get closer and closer to my retirement, I want to diversify into many other areas with the skills and cumulative experience I have, and not just obsess about the ups and downs of the financial market.
When I was young, I specialised in my work and didn't care much about anything else. Now, I'm finally broadening my horizon by diversifying into new business ventures, community service, health and wellness, farming know-how, family affairs, etc.. All these are investments as well. The financial market is only one of them (the most exciting one at the moment, no doubt), and I have to constantly remind myself not to over-extend, become blind with greed and play within my limits.
I want to have a healthy relationship with all aspects of my life, and it all comes down to being grounded and knowing oneself well, and I'm still in the learning process.
