Preliminary estimates of Malaysia's second-quarter GDP growth rate of 5.8%, the strongest increase in six quarters.

Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Datuk Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour and I had another constructive investor exchange event in Singapore last week, which was arranged by CIMB, J.P. Morgan, and UOB. We spoke with over 100 participants, including financial investors and capital market participants.
I reiterated Malaysia's key initiatives under the Ekonomi MADANI framework aimed at strengthening fiscal sustainability through more transparent and sound financial management, attracting high-quality investment, particularly in new growth areas, promoting green growth, transitioning to a low-carbon economy, and building a prosperous and inclusive society through more targeted policies.
The results of the implementation of these key measures are beginning to show. Preliminary estimates of Malaysia's gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the second quarter of 2024 were 5.8%, the strongest increase in six quarters. The Malaysian currency is currently at its best in 14 years, surpassing regional currencies. Approved investments in the first quarter of 2024 also increased by 13% to MYR 84 billion, showing continued investor confidence.
I was encouraged by the positive feedback I received during the exchange. Everyone is optimistic about the country's future growth, and I share this sentiment. I believe we are taking the right steps to build a momentum of progress to reclaim our status as the “Tiger of Asia.”
