President-elect Trump aims to abolish daylight saving time - criticized as "inconvenient".

December 15, 2024 7:59 AM JST
"The Republican Party is making every effort to abolish daylight saving time," the post reads.
Mr. Trump showed support for the permanent establishment of daylight saving time in 2019.
President-elect Trump revealed on the 13th his desire to abolish daylight saving time. He criticized the biannual time changes as "inconvenient" and a "burden" for the country.
Former President Trump posted on his own Social Media platform, 'Truth Social,' stating that the Republican Party is making every effort to abolish Daylight Saving Time. He pointed out that Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient and a significant burden on the nation.
Daylight Saving Time is a system of advancing the clock by one hour in summer to make effective use of the long daylight hours. In 2019, Mr. Trump also posted that he was okay with permanent Daylight Saving Time.
One of the issues surrounding the time system change is whether Congress must decide to abolish Daylight Saving Time or make it permanent. Senator Marco Rubio, nominated by Mr. Trump as Secretary of State from Florida, is advocating for making it permanent.
In the upcoming Trump administration, a new organization called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) aims to lead government spending cuts and bureaucratic reforms in collaboration with Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, and Biotechnology entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Last month, Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the public seems to want to abolish the annoying time changes.
Ramaswamy commented that the time changes are inefficient and can be easily changed.
