I look at $ProShares Short VIX Short-Term Futures ETF (SVXY.US)$ as an indicator. 

vix is not something you should buy unless you really know what your doing and how vix works. when it was lower around a month ago was probably where you wanted it but I still think vix is just an indicator.  if market is dropping and I want to see where it might stop then it could help  determine but wouldn't buy it there's too many long term stock opportunities to go after than vixy which plummets as market rallies which can be every day . svxy is inversed vix futures so shows where market could be heading
