The profit of the container shipping industry has increased rapidly due to the increase in cargo and the rise in freight rates caused by the diversion of the Red Sea.

September 2, 2024, 2:08 JST (excerpt)
It has been revealed in a new analysis that the profits of the global container shipping industry increased by more than 10 billion dollars (approximately 1.46 trillion yen) in the second quarter of 2024. This is due to the record-breaking cargo volume and the increase in freight rates caused by the diversion of the Red Sea route.
The net profit of container shipping companies, including AP Moller-Maersk of Denmark and China Cosco Shipping, nearly doubled from the first quarter of 2024, surpassing the 8.08 billion dollars in the same period last year. This was reported by industry veteran John McCown on August 31.
