Reflections 2024

As we head towards the end of 2024 and the start of 2025, I think it appropriate to reflect on some of my key investment moments in 2024.
2024 has been a tumultous year, with a combination of inflation, interest rate changes, war, elections and geopolitical tensions contributing to volatility in the equity and bond markets.
Money market fund $Fullerton SGD Cash Fund (SG9999005961.MF)$ did well for the first half of 2024. Yields began dropping when interest rate cuts looked imminent. While the yield is currently not as attractive, it is still a relatively safe place to park cash while maintaining liquidity. I do not need to monitor the NAV everyday.
Reflections 2024
When interest rate cuts began, I invested in $LionGlobal Short Duration Bond Fund QDis (SG9999002646.MF)$ and $LionGlobal Short Duration Bond Fund (SG9999016000.MF)$ . They performed well initially but when it looked like Donald Trump would win the election, the yield on long term bonds began rising and the NAV of the fund began fluctuating between negative, zero and positive gains. Luckily the negative returns were offset partly by the 6% coupon for 7-days (total reward). Overall, my total return was positive.

Reflections 2024
Trump’s proposed tariffs will likely slow down growth and create inflationary pressure so interest rate cuts may not be as steep as previously predicted. With this uncertainty, I feel it is better to go for stable stocks that give good dividends like $DBS (D05.SG)$ $OCBC Bank (O39.SG)$ $UOB (U11.SG)$.
I think $Singtel (Z74.SG)$ still has the potential to go up. In the meantime, I will continue to collect dividends.
Reflections 2024
Speaking of equities, I cashed out too early on $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ at $288. It is currently $350. It is never wrong to take profit but this is an indication I need to further improve on my technical analysis skills.

I use price alerts quite a lot. After ascertaining the support and resistance level for a stock from the charts, I will set the appropriate price alerts. You can set them in 2 ways.
1) Go to the quotes page of the stock and press on the circled icon
Reflections 2024
2) Go to Me and click on Alerts
Reflections 2024
You can adjust the frequency of the alerts according to your preference. Only once means it will not send any more alerts after the first time. Once a day sends the alert once in a day. Always On will send an alert whenever the price hits the indicated level.
