Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, 929th day

Combat
- The Ukrainian Air Force announced that it shot down 20 out of the 25 unmanned drones launched by Russia.
- Despite Ukraine's offensive in western Russia, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its own forces have advanced 1,000 square kilometers (390 square miles) into eastern Ukraine since early August.
- According to Russia's state-owned railway company, a Russian freight train derailed due to unauthorized intervention by individuals near the Belgorod Region, close to the Ukraine border.
- There have been no casualties. Since Russia's invasion began in 2022, the railway network that is crucial for the movement of weapons and troops to the frontlines has been repeatedly sabotaged.
Politics and Diplomacy
-U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.K. Foreign Secretary David Rami visited Kyiv and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
-Blinken stated that the United States will promise to provide what is necessary to effectively address Russia's aggression in Ukraine when needed.
-Zelensky promised a strong global response to any country that supports Russia's war efforts, stating that "we will do everything not only to protect our nation and people, but also to truly unite the world."
-Former U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris clashed over U.S. policy regarding the Ukraine conflict during the first presidential debate. Trump stated that he would exert pressure to "end this war" if elected. Harris criticized Trump for wanting to "surrender" to Russian President Putin's pressure.
President Zelensky said that western alliance countries of Ukraine should not only allow their own weapons to be used in attacks deep into Russian territory, but also supply long-range weapons to Kiev. After meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, President Zelensky said that Kiev is "more positive" about obtaining such permission.
-The United States formally condemned Iran for supplying ballistic missiles to Russia for use in Ukraine and intensified sanctions against Iran.
-The United Kingdom, France, and Germany announced that they will abandon the aviation agreement with Iran and impose sanctions on Iran's state-owned airlines due to suspicions of missile supplies to Russia by Tehran.
- Iran denied sending missiles to Russia and promised to respond to new sanctions.
- Nasser Kanani, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the recent actions by the three European countries are a continuation of the hostile policies and economic terrorism of the West against the Iranian people, and that the Islamic Republic of Iran will face appropriate and proportional actions.
- Joe Biden, the American president, was asked whether the administration is considering lifting the restrictions on Ukraine's use of long-range weapons deep inside Russia, and he responded that it is "under consideration".
