Russia - Ukraine War: What's happening in Kursk?

・Ukraine launched a surprise attack in Kursk on Tuesday. This was the most serious cross-border attack since Russia began an all-out invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

· On Saturday night, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged that the Ukrainian military was fighting in Kursk and said the operation was part of Kiev's attempt to “restore justice.”

· The Russian Ministry of Defense said that more troops and ammunition are being deployed in the border area in preparation for a possible counterattack.

・Russian President Vladimir Putin called this invasion a “large-scale provocation” by Ukraine, and military chief of staff Valery Gerasimov promised to suppress it.

・The Russian authorities have declared a “federal level” state of emergency in Kursk.

・Ukraine announced it had evacuated 0.02 million people from the Sumy region across the Kursk border. This is because fighting in this region is intensifying.

・Dozens of Ukrainian armored vehicles are sighted in border areas. The Kiev army began invading Russian territory from the Sumy region located in northeastern Ukraine.
