According to the Hong Kong research company Counterpoint Research, China's Mid-Core International Integrated Circuit Manufacturing (SMIC) has made a breakthrough to the world's third-largest semiconductor foundry (contract manufacturing).
SMIC's share on a sales basis for the fiscal year ending 2024/1-3 has risen to 6%. The market share is still in the single digit range, and although there is a big difference with the top 2 companies, this is the first time that the company has reached 3rd place in the world. The company, which is under US sanctions, appears to be benefiting from a boost from the Chinese government.
