South Korea ban short selling from now till June 2024, will be an interesting market to watch
South Korea from Monday (Nov 6) will reimpose a ban on short-selling shares at least until June to promote a "level playing field" for retail and institutional investors, financial authorities said on Sunday.
This probably caused a huge spike in the market. All the heavily shorted stocks in Korean market will be interesting to watch. Price may fall after the short squeeze is over.
Financial Services Commission (FSC) Chairman Kim Joo-hyun told a news briefing that "The measure is aimed at fundamentally easing 'the tilted playing field' between institutional and retail investors,"
"Amid continued uncertainty in financial markets, major foreign investment banks have been engaged as a matter of practice in unfair trades ... and we determined that it would be impossible to maintain fair trading discipline," Kim said.

They can still hold. But they will be losing money if the Korean markets keep ripping. Any short will have likely covered, adding to the bullishness

I wouldn't consider this a good thing. I would worry they are blocking profitability from a decline. or the possibility of it accelerating it.
