State Ranking: Number of Electric Vehicles Owned Per Capita in the U.S.

・California leads the United States in the spread of electric vehicles, has more than 1.1 million EVs, and has the highest number of EVs per capita.

To visualize regions where EVs are most prevalent, Visual Capitalist Bruno Venditti shows the number of EV registrations per 0.1 million people by state on a map as of 2024/6.
Vehicle registration data is obtained from the US Department of Energy, and population data is obtained from the US Census Bureau.

California is leading the way in introducing EVs
California has the highest number of electric cars with 1.1 million units. Florida continues with 0.23 million1000, and Texas is in 3rd place with 0.21 million.
In terms of EVs per 0.1 million people, California is at the top with 3,026 per 0.1 million people, followed by Washington, Hawaii, and Oregon.
