Uranium and nuclear energy stocks have overtaken chips as this year's best performers, fueled by demand from AI and data centers.
This shows the returns in the world's biggest ETF, SPY $SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY.US)$. which has gone up 13%. Meaning, you would have made 13% by investing in the S&P500. Or if you invested in Uranium and nuclear energy stocks like Vistra Corp $VISTRA CORP C/WTS 02/02/2024 (TO PUR COM) (VST.WSA.US)$, it has gained 180% YTD, and Constellation Energy $Constellation Energy (CEG.US)$ has risen 118%.
Both of these stocks have made sizeable moves since I highlighted that these stocks were worth watching plus that they've seen some of the most earnings upgrades (that was back in April - Read here).
So if you have not thought about investing in uranium for the long term, maybe now is your time. But I encourage you to read all that I have written on the subject and do your own research.

Shares in Constellation $Constellation Energy (CEG.US)$, the biggest US operator of reactors, surged 22% to a new all-time high on Friday after it pledged to invest $1.6 billion in reviving a nuclear plant to provide Microsoft Corp with non-emitting electricity.
The Three Mile Island reactor, shuttered in 2009, will be back in service in 2028 after Microsoft agreed to purchase its output for two decades. It is the first time the tech giant has secured a dedicated, 100% nuclear facility for its use. The deal also highlights the surging interest in stable, round-the-clock energy.
I have spoken about Uranium a lot over the last 1.5 years and why I think it will continue to dominate the limelight and generate some of the best returns (read here), given AI and chip companies are demanding cheaper, ‘cleaner’ energy.
It is worth noting Paladin Energy $Paladin Energy Ltd (PDN.AU)$, Boss Energy $Boss Energy Ltd (BOE.AU)$, and Deep Yellow $Deep Yellow Ltd (DYL.AU)$ were the biggest climbers on the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 Index on Monday, each gaining at least 6%. In Korea, power generation equipment maker Doosan Enerbility rose as much as 4.2%.

But if you look at the world's biggest ETF that tracks Uranium, $Global X Uranium ETF (URA.US)$ you can see some other companies, which are perhaps little known, have generated returns in excess of 225%, such as Nuscale Power $NuScale Power (SMR.US)$

What to do when the chips are down? Some investors are awaiting earnings results and guidance levels before buying into the chip dip with from the likes of AMD $Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.US)$ , reporting on October 31, and Nvidia $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$ , reporting on November 21.
Meanwhile, some investors are taking advantage of chips trading lower and are buying weakness with the world's biggest chip and semiconductor ETF, the SMH $VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH.US)$ , trading 15% down from its high. While the long-term narrative remains bullish, with 42% spending growth expected to hit the broad sector by 2032, fresh positive tailwinds from the Fed cutting rates and the Bank of Japan signaling it's not in a rush to raise rates from 0.25% should work in chips' favor over the next 12 months.Naturally, M&A talk and activity will pick up, just like we saw with Qualcomm and Intel, and Samsung and TSMC announcing expansion plans. While credit is cheap and getting cheaper, innovation and takeover talk can continue. So, consider getting ready to explore buying those stocks you want.

Also, keep an eye on Apple $Apple (AAPL.US)$ – it will probably be in the limelight this week and could dominate news as investment managers look for clues that their iPhone 16 launch launch has boosted and will continue to boost sales ahead of its AI features rolling out.
