Structure bond sales fall sharply to 1/10 or less from recent peak - Financial Services Agency investigation

2024/7/8 14:00 JST (some excerpts)
The Financial Services Agency recently announced that the total amount of structured bonds sold to individuals by major banks, regional banks, and securities companies is less than 1/10 compared to the most recent peak.
“Monitoring results related to sales of risky financial products” were announced on the 5th. According to that, the total amount of structured bonds sold from April to September 2023 is 200 billion yen. This is a 93% decrease compared to the 3 trillion yen sold from September '20 to March '21.
Regarding structured bond sales, the Financial Services Agency strengthened surveillance of financial institutions, as commerciality is complicated and explanations to individual investors are lacking. Regional banks have also decided to stop sales one after another.
