Sudanese government to discuss cease-fire with US in Jeddah
The Sudanese government announced on Friday its intention to send a delegation to Jeddah to discuss a request to participate in the cease-fire negotiations in Geneva scheduled for 8/14. This is the first major effort to end a 15-month conflict between the Sudanese military and the paramilitary Emergency Assistance Force (RSF).
Until now, the Sudanese military has rejected the cease-fire proposed by the UN Security Council during Ramadan month. However, the RSF agreed to attend the meeting to be held in Geneva.
Tensions between the Sudanese military and RSF paramilitary groups have been rising steadily since April last year, and clashes have continued uninterrupted. As a result of this conflict, more than 10.2 million people were forced to flee Sudan and around 14,790 lives were lost.
