Taiwan TSMC's top 10 customer list! The high price since listing was updated due to AI tailwind
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$、 $Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.US)$、 $Qualcomm (QCOM.US)$、 $Broadcom (AVGO.US)$It has received orders from major chip design companies such as, and has the largest market share in the industry as a foundry that manufactures the world's most advanced chips. Since it not only has a large supply capacity, but also has a high level of chip manufacturing technology, major manufacturers around the world are forced to rely on the company.
As you can see from the graph, $Apple (AAPL.US)$is TSMC's largest customer and contributes 25% of annual sales. In fact, over the years, Apple was the first to adopt the new process and has acquired a monopoly position. According to reports, TSMC is expected to mass-produce nanochips from 2025, and the iPhone 17 Pro will be the first product to adopt this new process, and will monopolize TSMC's annual production capacity.
Additionally, NVIDIA, which is the absolute leader in the global AI chip market, made a breakthrough to 2nd place with 10.11%. Due to strong demand for AI GPUs “A100” and “H100,” which are manufactured with TSMC's 7 nano or 5 nano process nodes, NVIDIA's market share has reached 80-90%.
The most advanced node currently being manufactured is 3 nano, and is mainly used by Apple for iPhones and MacBooks. 5 nano/4 nano are used by NVIDIA and the like as AI accelerators, and high-performance computing (HPC) is rapidly shifting to 3 nano and even 2 nano.
Apple adopted TSMC's 3-nano manufacturing process (N3) for manufacturing SoCs (A17 Bionic) for next-generation iPhones and SoCs (M3) for next-generation MacBooks. Also, the next-generation SoC “M4” for the iPad Pro announced last month adopted a more cost-effective 2nd generation 3nm process (N3E). Qualcomm and MediaTek are also expected to use the N3E process to manufacture new chips.
$Intel (INTC.US)$It was confirmed that mass production of Lunar Lake's central processing unit, GPU, and high-speed I/O chips will also be requested from TSMC in the 2nd quarter. The company's 3-nano market share has exceeded 90%, and as orders increase, the production utilization rate will soar to 80% by the end of 2024, and the monthly production capacity will reach 120,000 to 180,000 sheets, which is expected to contribute 20% of revenue.
AI chips such as NVIDIA's AI GPUs “A100” and “H100” and AMD's AI GPUs “Instinct MI250” and “MI300” series are all manufactured with TSMC's 7 nano or 5 nano process nodes. Also, there are reports that both companies have booked TSMC's advanced packaging capabilities until the end of 2025, indicating that there is strong demand from high-performance computing (HPC), which is TSMC's main customer.
With a strong outlook led by AI, the company's stock price has continued to hit high prices since listing, and has risen 62.34% year to date, making it the 8th largest company in the world in terms of total market value. (2024/6/10 after closing)
