Tesla FSD vehicles public test rollout in China Pave way to introduce Robotaxi

$Tesla(TSLA.US)$ $BYD COMPANY(01211.HK)$ $NIO Inc(NIO.US)$ $XPeng(XPEV.US)$ The article reported that Shanghai’s Nanhui New Town is facilitating 10 Tesla vehicles that would be carrying out an FSD pilot. In its report, Chinese media outlet Shanghai Observer noted that the update was related by Lu Sen, the director of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone Lingang New Area Administrative Committee’s data department.

Here is the summary of Tesla FSD progress in China:

1) In May, Tesla China was preparing to register FSD with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). After Tesla registers FSD with the MIIT, the EV maker is expected to start internal FSD testing on public roads.

2) Tesla has been laying the foundation for the release of FSD in China. Back in 2021, Tesla set up a data center in Shanghai. The facility gathers data from the Tesla fleet in China. It also stores information related to Tesla China’s production data, sales data, service data, and charging data. The data center allows Tesla China to comply with regulatory requirements as well.
3) During Elon Musk's surprise visit to China in late April, Musk met with a number of key government officials to discuss FSD’s rollout to China. At the same time, it was also announced that Tesla met all data processing requirements in the country.

My Take: TslaChan in X.com speculates that if Tesla FSD is approved, Robotaxi service connecting Nanhui New Town and Pudong Airport may be available immediately. Despite what skeptics (and haters) said, this is another evidence that Tesla is laying many ground work for Robotaxi before unveiling on 8 August.
