Tesla Sues Chinese Auto Parts Company Over Dangerous NACS Adapter

$Tesla(TSLA.US)$ $BYD COMPANY(01211.HK)$ $NIO Inc(NIO.US)$ $XPeng(XPEV.US)$ The article reported that Tesla has taken legal action against Yancheng Jeco Auto Parts Co. Ltd., also known as JecoEV, over their North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter. The complaint, filed on Monday in the California Northern District Court, claims the adapter is marketed deceptively to non-Tesla electric vehicle (EV) owners, and poses significant dangers to them... Tesla’s lawsuit seeks to stop JecoEV from importing and selling their NACS adapter in the US. Tesla is also requesting damages.
My Take:
1) This is another example that some chinese companies are illegally "copying" Tesla's technology but in this case it is done at the expense of customers' safety. According to Tesla, the adapter lacks adequate protection against heat, dust, and water, which could lead to “catastrophic” injuries, or damage to Tesla’s Supercharger infrastructure.
“Specifically, the JecoEV Charging Adapter packaging and foldout pamphlet falsely advertise the JecoEV Charging Adapter to have 1) thermal protection in the form of a temporary kill switch such that ‘when the adapter reaches 90 degrees Celsius, charging stops,’ and 2) ‘IP54 Protection Level’ to protect against dirt, dust, oil, and water. These specifications are false,” the complaint alleges.
2) I made this post to warn against buying such parts online. The article also revealed that the Amazon store allowed JecoEV to advertise the part in its platform but was taken down amid Tesla complained.
