In John chapter 4, we see Jesus and his disciples walking near some wheat fields. Pointing at the field, he said, “Why don't you say, 'There are still four months until the harvest time. ' I'm telling you, look, the crops are ripe and ready to be harvested. Harvesters get paid wages and save grains for eternal life, so that those who sow are happy with the harvesters.” (John 4:35-36, ESV)
The disciples were perplexed. When they saw that the plants were only half grown, they thought, “Anyone with common sense can tell that these fields are far from ripe.” However, Jesus was talking about harvesting souls for God's kingdom.
The lessons learned have broader implications for our lives. Jesus told us, “You don't have to wait four months to overcome your sins or develop a strong passion for me. I'm giving you all of these things right now. You can't do it with your own strength and ability, but I'll speed everything up, and those who follow me will have no excuses.”
I want to ask every student or young office worker reading this one question. Would you say to yourself, “I want to wait until after graduation to quit drinking”? You might say, “I need to wait until I'm older to stop messing with men and women and settle down and get married.” or “I just want to get a taste of the world and then give everything I have to Jesus.”
Jesus' lesson on harvesting the fields proclaimed to all who followed him: “Now is the time.” This lesson about harvesting addresses every excuse humanity makes. There is no waiting in God's kingdom. If you wait four months, the harvest will rub shoulders with you. Don't let any excuse get you off track. Today is that day in Christ's kingdom. Now it's time for him to fulfill your call.
I have a challenge for you. Write down your excuses on a piece of paper and read it one last time. Roll up that piece of paper, throw it in the trash, and say, “I'm going to put that excuse behind me. I have no more excuses. Jesus said that he is now ripe for the harvest in my life.

Already the One Who Reaps is Harvesting Wages and Gathering Fruit for Eternal Life, So That Sower and Reaper May Rejoice Together” (John 4:35-36, ESV).
The Disciples were perplexed. They saw that the plants were only half grown and thought, “can anyone with common sense see these fields are nowhere near ready for harvest.” However, Jesus was talking about the Harvest of Souls for God's Kingdom.
The lesson of the harvest has a lasting meaning for our lives. Jesus is telling us, “You Don't Have to Wait Four Months to Commit Your Sin or Have a Burning Passion for Me. I have made all those things available to you right now. It is impossible to you in your own strength and ability, but I am expediting all things, and there can be no excuses among those who follow me.”
I have a question for every student or young working person reading this. Do you say to yourself, “I'll wait until I graduate before I stop drinking”? Maybe you say, “I'll wait until I'm older to stop sleeping around and settle down in marriage.” Or “I just want to taste a little more of the world before I give my all to Jesus.”
Jesus' Lesson of the Harvest Fields Remembering to All Who Would Follow Him, “Now is the Time.” This lesson of the harvest addresses every human being There is no waiting in God's Kingdom. If You Wait Four Months, The Harvest Will Pass You By. Don't let anything sidetrack you. In Christ's Kingdom, today is the day. Now is his time for his calling on you to be fulfilled.
I offer you a challenge. Write down your thoughts on a piece of paper and read it for the last time. Crumple that paper, toss it into the trash and say, “I'm leaving that behind me. I have no more excuses. Jesus says his harvest in my life is ripe right now.
