$Tesla (TSLA.US)$ Investors who dance to Tesla's exaggerated...

Investors who dance to Tesla's exaggerated publicity are unrealistic optimists who do not face reality.
Matthew Wansley, Professor at Cardozo Law School, New York University
"What Tesla showed tonight was a lot of smoke and mirrors. What they have not yet shown is the software with self-driving system functionality. Musk has not yet proven that a vision-only approach for autonomous driving is feasible, and he did not address that issue tonight."
"A big unresolved question about Tesla is that its software is significantly lagging behind today compared to standards in other industries."
Bryant Walker Smith, Professor at University of South Carolina School of Law
"Once again, Tesla claimed it's only 1 or 2 years away from actual self-driving. In fact, the whole Tesla event had the vibe of 2014, but in 2014, there were no autonomous driving cars deployed on public roads. Today, there are autonomous vehicles actually carrying people on real roads, but none of them are Teslas. Tonight, they couldn't change this reality either."
KC Boyce, Vice President at Escalent, a data analytics and advisory firm
"Considering Tesla's history of excessive and inadequate expectations, I wasn't very hopeful about this event. In that sense, it met my expectations. It was a typical Tesla announcement, full of exaggeration and lacking in detail."
Tesla's chosen Vision-Only system has a handicap compared to Waymo and Cruise's approaches to autonomy. Nevertheless, Tesla has a potential advantage from existing vehicles and the 'vision' data obtained from there. I am skeptical whether the advantage of this data is sufficient to fill the gap of sensors.
Zacks Investment Management, Client Portfolio Manager, Brian Marberry
If details like (masks) are not revealed, at least in the short term, it is a bit difficult to see measurable impacts on earnings.
'The lack of details is certainly concerning, so we are somewhat lukewarm about this event overall. The absence of details for us means that no further clear information was obtained. In terms of profitability for robotaxis per share, we are still looking 6, 7, 8 years ahead. That's what we gathered from here.'
Hannah Effen Lim, Professor at Nanyang Technological University
'The (two-seater design) is not practical at all. Those who truly need a kind of door-to-door service are likely to be the elderly, young people, or those who cannot use public transport. Having only two seats does not work well.'
Colin Langan, Analyst at Wells Fargo & Co
'The Cybercab demo was conducted in a well-controlled environment resembling a slow and short amusement park ride. Waymo currently hosts 0.1 million rides per week in major cities, and we expected more from Tesla's demo.'
[Conclusion]
Elon Musk's 'cameras' alone can never achieve fully self-driving cars. If by any chance it can be achieved, it would be the same as asking ChatGPT or Copilot.
"Can you guess the dream I had yesterday?"
If you were to ask them 'Can you guess the dream I had yesterday?', it would be the same as accurately guessing 'the dream you had yesterday,' which is something that can never be done. Elon Musk has chosen to win sales competition against BYD by producing affordable and low-performance EVs that do not feature LiDAR, far below the performance of the world-dominating EVs of BYD.

  • J_M_RIN : Do these important people really understand tesla❓ I thought that professors would provide soft information with flexible minds, but they seem quite rigid and lacking in imagination. It seems like their uninspiring words make life boring and dull~‥

  • 181418060 OP J_M_RIN : In the United States, each state has a facility equivalent to a driver's license center called the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The DMV manages the permission for driving on public roads and the renewal of driver's licenses. They also publicly release qualification exams related to self-driving cars as official documents.
    Reference
"Autonomous Vehicle Testing Permit Holders"https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/vehicle-industry-services/autonomous-vehicles/autonomous-vehicle-testing-permit-holders/This is a list of companies holding autonomous vehicle driving test permits.

    This document includes

    - Permits Holders (Testing with a driver)
    - Permits Holders (Driverless Testing)
    - Permits Holders (Deployment)

    There are three categories.

The first one indicates companies that have passed the qualification test for test driving on public roads with a driver present. The second one represents companies that have passed the qualification test for test driving on public roads without a driver. The last one refers to companies that fall into the previous two categories and are issued permits for developing self-driving cars and conducting test drives on public roads. Companies holding the permit for the last category are authorized to operate taxi services as commercial services.

Permits Holders (Testing with a driver) ➡️ tesla company's name mentioned
(Companies authorized to test drive on public roads with a driver present)

includes the name of the tesla company, however,

Permits Holders (Driverless Testing) ➡️ tesla company's name not mentioned
(Companies authorized to test drive on public roads without a driver present)

Permits Holders (Deployment) ➡️ tesla company's name not mentioned
(Companies authorized to deploy taxi services as commercial services)

The names of the tesla company are not listed for the last two categories.

Elon Musk, who vehemently supports President Trump's tough measures against Chinese products and won the price war against Chinese competitors like BYD, still adheres to the policy of not installing LiDAR, so it is unlikely that tesla's name will appear in the last two categories.

As long as tesla's name is not listed in the last two categories, regulatory authorities will not approve tesla, so there is no future for tesla.

  • J_M_RIN : I believe that self-driving cars are already superior to those of other companies (even in name only), and I don't think it's a competition with BYD (since the gross profit per car is different, I don't think Tesla will lose). I recognize Tesla as a company that considers the future of the earth's environment, resources, and how humanity can protect its way of life (issues like electrical utilities shortage, labor shortage, eco-friendly concept), anticipating various problems that might occur in a future that is difficult for us to imagine, making them a unique company that moves ahead.[undefined]

  • 181418060 OP J_M_RIN : Tesla's self-driving technology is significantly inferior to Waymo led by Google, Cruise led by GM, and Zoox led by Amazon, as indicated in DMV documents. It is unacceptable not to pass the qualification test to drive on public roads at self-driving level 4 by DMV standards.

  • 181418060 OP J_M_RIN : It is the DMV that certifies whether the self-driving level is 2 or above. If Tesla's name is not listed in the corresponding column for DMV certification, Tesla will never be able to operate a robot taxi business. On the contrary, if the DMV approves Tesla's self-driving technology, it could be a chance for them.

  • 181418060 OP J_M_RIN : Mercedes-Benz has been authorized for level 3 self-driving cars by the DMVs of California and Nevada. Honda's Legend has also been authorized for level 3 self-driving cars by the DMVs of California and Nevada. Therefore, without approval from the DMVs, there is no future for Tesla's level 3 self-driving cars.

  • J_M_RIN 181418060 OP : You are not invested in tesla, right⁉️ So this is a caution to those who are invested in tesla.[undefined] Thank you very much[undefined]

  • お多福 : The professor is doing this and that, the DMV has not reached level 4.
So what. What are you going to do about it?
Just because someone, like the professor, said something,
Write down what you want to do.
How short-sighted. You lack foresight in everything.

  • 181418060 OP お多福 : If Tesla is not approved by the DMV, it cannot operate a robotaxi business or autonomously drive on public roads ➡️ That's the end.

Right? Are you under the impression that Tesla can operate a robotaxi in the USA and dreaming about Tesla? Are you dreaming that Tesla can autonomously drive unmanned in the USA? Neither will come true. Tesla's robotaxi is just pie in the sky.
