$Spirit Airlines(SAVE.US$ by blocking JetBlue’s acquisition of Spirit, the Biden administration has driven Spirit to the brink of bankruptcy while simultaneously eliminating JetBlue’s ability to grow, destroying Frontier’s chance to become the #1 ULCC, protecting the oligopoly of the BIG FOUR airlines, and destabilizing all other carriers in the industry through additional regulation—targeting the financial strategies of the small carriers.
As a result of the blocked merger, nearly a thousand Spirit and JetBlue employees have already lost their jobs while both companies’ stock has plummeted—and Spirit’s most recent credit downgrade means they are unlikely to survive.
Crippling Spirit and JetBlue financially by blocking the merger does nothing to protect competition—as the administration bragged it did. Instead, Spirit and JetBlue are on life support.
