In a public opinion survey conducted this year by the libertarian think tank, Kato Institute, in the United States, 60% of respondents answered that imposing tariffs on imported jeans is a "good thing." However, only 30% answered that they would be willing to pay the resulting $10 increase in price. What can be inferred from the survey is that while voters have a favorable view of the idea of import tariffs, they are not willing to accept the consequences that tariffs bring.
