Bloomberg's economist median forecast was 0.232 million cases. The previous week was 0.233 million cases. The flash value was 0.232 million cases.
The 4-week moving average of unemployment insurance claims, which has less volatility, decreased to 0.232 million cases.
On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, it was 0.192 million cases. The previous week was also 0.192 million cases.
The number of continuing unemployment insurance beneficiaries increased by 0.013 million to 1.868 million people as of the week ending on August 17th.
